Pequot means" destroyers" which comes from Narragansett word pequttoog by most historians researching. It was a famous national American tribe which is formed by Indians who lived Connecticut which still has two Pequot Indian bands today. Although they all speak English today, in the past thay all spoke the  Mohegan-Pequot language with other tribes such as Mohegans. By the way, Mohegan and Pequot was in a same tribe a long time ago but Mohegans broke away. Therefore, they spoke the same language and have plenty of traditions in common.

Pequots had some really special habbits for living. For example, they did live insmall round houses called wigwams insread of teppes; they also had really complex and culturely religion and they were known for their Indian beadwork and basketry.

On the other hand, Pequot was a traditional farmer tribe. Pequot men all were hunters and Pequot women usually took care of childs, agriculture and domiciles. Speaking of hunting, the most usually weapon they used bows and arrows, spears, and clubs. Basicly, Pequot is a peaceful but proud tribe by observing their habbits and the main reason people could remeber them is Pequot War which directly causes the fission of the old big pequot tirbe.

Since 1620, there did are a period of peaceful time between all the Indian tribes lived in the costal areas. Nevertheless, with the new settlers continue westward extension of soil, the Indians hated unabated. Especially the Pequots, they dicided only to trade with Hollanders and that arouseds the anger of the Great Britain. In the summer of 1636, A Boston merchant said to be Pequot killed, then caused a 

 

dispute. Massachusetts authorities sent troops to the cottage, destroyed crops, Indians provoked fierce resistance. After a while, there were 500~ 600 Pequots killed or burned to death. In other word, Pequots lost. Pequot War straight cuased decline of Pequots and when it comes to the 21th century there were only 200 Pequots left.
